Transport Systems & Logistics Laboratory

Kenta Matsui

PhD Student

Biography

Kenta works on the coordination of autonomous vehicle fleets in industrial settings, particularly open-pit mines: how to dispatch, route and move many vehicles safely and efficiently, and how to plan fleets that are economically and environmentally sustainable. He is interested in combinatorial and distributed optimisation, reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems and the decarbonisation of heavy transport.

He joined the lab as a Sponsored Researcher (2022–2023) before starting his PhD. He received his BEng and MEng in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University, where his research focused on computer vision. He has worked for Komatsu Ltd. since 2014 as a research and development engineer for autonomous mining systems.
